I tweaked my Facebook page name a bit – TRANSFORM YOURSELF – because it better describes my motivations, intentions and theme to what I will be sharing here in 2016.
I’ve had a really crappy year. You can read more about my thyroid cancer diagnosis in THIS LINK. I was talking with my Hubby yesterday about how I feel when I eat certain foods and he looked at me like I was nuts and said “I can’t believe you know your body that well that you can sense how you feel then you eat certain things”?!
Hellooooo… Yes I can, and I highly suggest everyone tune into their bodies in that way as I’m absolutely convinced thats the reason I knew something was wrong with me because I could sense it in me, that something was “off”.
Going forward in 2016 I will be focusing on getting back to ME… in every aspect. Yes, I want to get back into shape and I’m super excited to do it using the tools I have and to share it and help others do the same as I share my journey. But I think there’s so much more to being happy and healthy besides what the scale says or what size jeans we are sliding into.
One of the symptoms of thyroid cancer and hypothyroidism is feelings of depression and anxiety and I had that hit me like a tidal wave last winter. When you don’t know whats causing those feelings, you assume there’s something wrong with you and you have to “fix” it and then when you can’t, you feel worse. That’s exactly what was happening to me and I thought I was losing my mind.
I’ve realized that how we feel about ourselves, the mental outlook we have is not only crucial to aiding in recovering from an illness but its also part of what will ultimately give us the strength to be good to ourselves and be good to our own body. As I moved through my surgery and radiation treatment, I had so many people including my Dr. tell me that having a positive attitude is the key to recovery. I couldn’t agree more and I think there is also a direct correlation between having a positive attitude and being successful in implementing lifelong healthy lifestyle changes.
That’s why the word TRANSFORM comes to mind for me when I think about how I am moving forward. For me its about so much more than just getting back into my jeans (although that will be a nice benefit!). It’s about being happy, being healthy and being my best self!
That’s where I’m headed this coming year! It’s not about a “New Years Resolution”. I think resolutions are stupid. A resolution is that thing that will end up right back on your list for 2017 because you’ll start off doing it for 3-4 weeks at best, but then old habits are right back in place as if they never left.
Perhaps a different way to think of it is to change your approach and outlook – how do you want to change your LIFESTLYE? What can you change that will be a permanent lifestyle enhancement?
What is YOUR real WHY behind the change you want to make?
For me it looks like this:
As I move into a healing phase… my Dr. gave me a specific protocol for my health and to kill cancer cells and prevent them from returning:
- No sugar – sugar is like crack for cancer cells.
- Detox my body with regular sweat and water intake.
- Cancer cells do NOT like a body in motion so I need to MOVE EVERYDAY.
Sounds familiar doesn’t it? A healthy lifestyle around eating clean and exercising – some may call it a “diet” but for me, its my new way of life for the rest of my life rather than something I’m going to do for a period of time.
So, this begs the question – What is it that YOU need to do to TRANSFORM YOU?? To be healthy? happier? Perhaps you’re reading this and thinking “I see why you’re so motivated because you have cancer, but, I don’t have a cancer diagnosis as my reason?” and the only reply I have for that is “Are you waiting for a major health issue to appear in your body before you make the changes you’ve wanted to make but haven’t?” What is your WHY?
So – those are the 3 foundational pieces to what my routine is going to look like going forward. I’m excited to share with you all the ways in which I intend to implement this. The food choices I make, the exercise routine – all of it and I do all of that with the intention of sharing my story and journey to help others do the same and achieve YOUR goals as well.
I will be sharing why I use the Beachbody tools – the workouts, the eating plan and SHAKEOLOGY. I want to hear what your doing that is working for you – the workout you love, the healthy recipes – all of it! If you’re struggling and would like some help getting your routine started and you think one of the many Beachbody tools may be right for you – reach out to me – I’d love to hear your struggles, goals and I can recommend one of the many workout/eating plans for you!
Going forward, I will also share more of where I am with my prognosis, and more about my story of my diagnosis with the hope that my story will help someone else who may be experiencing similar symptoms that I had over the past year.
I know for certain that I’m not alone in this quest to be my happiest, healthiest self. I’ve found a lot of strength, comfort and motivation from reading and hearing other stories of women who have gone threw the same things as me and that’s what I have a HUGE passion to do for others.
For now, you can read my latest blog about my radiation treatment and my unusual Thanksgiving weekend HERE.
Here’s to an amazing 2016 – a year of happiness, health and true TRANSFORMATION!
