Did you know that one of the keys to a great salad is pairing the right kind of dressing with the right kind of lettuce?
One of my little obsessions that I have as I’ve started my cooking adventures over the past couple of years is that I’m always looking for ways to make a homemade salad taste as good as those you order in a restaurant! I mean, why not right? Sometimes I find myself ordering a salad (or making my Hubby order it!) just so I can see how its made and then recreate it at home!
I love this idea! I never really thought about matching up my lettuce of choice with the correct salad dressing!
Soooo…. here we go! Take a look below – there are 3 – YES 3 great simple salad dressing recipes and what lettuce to put with them! Add a protein, and some additional salad fixings and now you have 3 meals for the week too!
- A simple Basic Vinaigrette. Some variation of this should be on your meal prep list each week – so easy and quick – and if your keeping the dressing simple, then pair it with a stronger lettuce like ARUGULA.
1/2 cup of EVOO
1 minced shallot
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
salt and pepper to taste
Whisk all together – add some lemon juice too as an option and thats it! Simple dressing for a stronger lettuce. I like this with kale too!
- Next up is a Berry and Goat Cheese Vinaigrette paired with SPINACH.
Start with the basic recipe and then add 1/4 cup of blackberries and 1/2 cup of goat cheese – whisk all together and then add this type of dressing to SPINACH.
A fruit based dressing tastes great with spinach!
3. Last but not least… It’s a CREAMY BACON MASCARPONE DRESSING PAIRED WITH A LIGHT LETTUCE LIKE ROMAINE LETTUCE
In this example, there is a stronger dressing so using a lighter lettuce like ROMAINE is the best choice!
Start with 1/2 cup of the basic vinaigrette and then whisk in 2 tbsp of Mascarpone cheese and a tbsp of bacon fat. Pour over romaine lettuce and sprinkle 3 chopped up pieces of bacon over top
